Jennifer Lopez – aka queen J Lo – was born in the Bronx borough of New York City on July 24, 1969. She began taking dance and vocal lessons at the age of 5.
In her final year of high school, Lopez was cast in her first film, and realized that she wanted to become a famous actor. After graduating, she moved out of her parents’ house and began to take on roles in regional and touring musicals. Throughout the 90’s, Lopez took on various gigs as an actor and back-up dancer. In 1997, Lopez was cast as the lead in a biopic of Selena Quintanilla, which made her the highest paid Hispanic actress.
In 1999, Lopez released her debut single “If You Had My Love,” which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. While critics expected the album to flop, she proved them all wrong, and successfully made the transition from film star to popular musician. She has since gone on to release seven more albums, and star in numerous films and TV shows, making her a complete icon in the industry.
