Welcome to our three-part “Humans of Girls Behind the Rock Show” series. We’re featuring eight humans who opened up to us about their inspirations, what Girls Behind the Rock Show means to them, and what they would tell their younger selves. Enjoy learning more about those in our community!

Who/what inspires you to be who you are in the industry?
For a very long time growing up my inspiration came from Adam Elmakias with the whole music photography thing. I got that down on lock and it only helped me get my foot in the door of where my life is now with booking at the Whisky a Go Go. Listening to music that I enjoy is my biggest inspiration. My job is fun because I’m the youngest there and I’m the one who knows all the up and coming acts which is inspiring to see blow up. I want to be a part of that progress and be able to say that I booked this artist as they get bigger and start playing bigger venues.

What does having GBTRS in your life mean/do for you?
Having GBTRS got me the job I have today. If I wasn’t in this group I wouldn’t have seen Heather Koepp post the job listing. This group is so wonderfully supportive of everyone and it brings me joy!

What is something you’d have liked to pass on to your younger self?
Something I’d like to pass on to my younger self is don’t work for free. I did that for a long time, and not to say it didn’t help my resumé and skills, but working for free for so long doesn’t get you anywhere. Can’t really say much else to my younger self since I never lost sight of what I wanted to do with my life.

Who/what inspires you to be who you are in the industry?
The ability to document musicians during some of the best times of their lives, whether once a night or on tour, is what keeps me in the industry.

What does having GBTRS in your life mean/do for you?
It makes it easier to find resources since there are so many people in one place.

What is something you’d have liked to pass on to your younger self?
Stop being scared of the what ifs and just do it!

Who/what inspires you to be who you are in the industry?
My kids and my younger self inspire me the most. I grew up with a passion for music, and my daughters definitely are my biggest cheerleaders in encouraging me to pursue my dreams. I also hope to show them that they can do anything they want.

What does having GBTRS in your life mean/do for you?
GBTRS has played a huge factor into getting to know the music community, learning how to network, and really growing as a person. I’m so thrilled to be a part of something so amazing.

What is something you’d have liked to pass on to your younger self?
If I could pass something to my younger self… it would be to never put down the camera, learn that you have to take your losses in order to achieve the wins, and never lose hope.
